In-office*
- We are default in-office everyday.

~Coming together in-person fuels creativity, cultivates our culture, enables communication and strengthens team bonds.

- We default to going into the office, unless one has personal needs that require them to work from home or for some reason that’s net negative for our productivity or satisfaction (e.g. need to pick up child/pet, household needs, etc.). During those times it’s totally fine WFH — feel free to let your manager and specific teammates you’re working closely with know.
- We understand and support visiting family abroad, utilizing remote work to extend your stay. While away, maintain productivity and communication. You're responsible for balancing work and personal time without impacting the team.
- It is important that you are online during US hours for at least half your day—it's a regular workday, just from a different location.
- In general during travel/around PTO, short periods of remote work (1–3 days) are easy to accommodate. Longer stretches — especially those exceeding a week — should be rare and tied to a clear need. If you're planning to be remote for more than a few days, please check in with your manager to make sure it aligns with team priorities and expectations.
- Folks are expected to be online and responsive from 9.30-7, if not before/after. It’s a startup — the expectation is that everyone works hard. But, also to realize it’s a marathon — so work hard, then go home!
- Everyone is encouraged to have hobbies, exercise and socialize – you’re trusted to shape your day around those activities even if in those hours.
- You can show up to the office and leave whenever works best for your routine and work, maximizing overlapping time with others in that range.
*Note that our Platform/DataMover team are the only remote team — given the nature of their work.
Vibes
Think about how others will perceive us and our space – when we bring in guests (candidates, investors, partners, customers, users) into the office, we’d like to make sure that people leave with an excellent impression about us (“wow that koodos, they seem so hard-working and their office culture is so healthy and distinctive”).
- To indicate you’re in “focus mode”, put in your headphones/earphones. We aim to respect people’s focus time unless there’s a matter that you need them in (use your common sense for what that might entail).
- If someone’s in “focus mode” (e.g. wearing headphone), feel free to ping them on slack first to check if you can pause them and interrupt rather than just interrupting their flow.
- In your Teams page, feel free to update how you work best and any other notes for the rest of the team around considerations around your office/work preferences (e.g. this)
- We like to collaborate, don’t hesitate to approach someone and do just that.
- If there’s a problem that’d benefit from collaboration: tackle it together. HUDDLE.
- You’re encouraged to tap the person on the shoulder, show them something or ask them something, especially if the topic would benefit from back-and-forth.
- Impromptu brainstorms are encouraged. Whiteboards and post-its should be used liberally.
- ‣
- Play music on Mondays before kick-off (energetic) and Fridays after 4 – and any time when there’s a smaller group of folks that are consenting to music being played out loud
Meeting Room vs. Kitchen Table Use
Meeting Rooms
meeting rooms should be used for:
- external calls that require talking and are likely to disrupt the rest of the office (e.g. creative team calls, UXR sessions, interviews, etc.)
- internal meetings that include more than one member of the team and would benefit from privacy and/or would be distracting for the rest of the team (e.g. 1:1s)
